Over the hill gameplay: what you actually do

Choose a destination, drive a line your 4×4 can handle, recover if you get stuck and finish the objective for progression. Watch the selected tutorial segments if you want to judge that slower exploration loop before buying.

Quick guide

Steam release footage. Videos explain tasks; they are not console performance tests.

  1. Watch the climb/winch segment to judge terrain driving.
  2. Watch the cabin/map segment to see how an outing gets its return point.
  3. Watch the mechanic segment to see how rewards become upgrades.
  4. For an actual first session, follow the beginner guide rather than watching the whole playthrough.

The main loop

Pick a destination, find a line the vehicle can drive, recover if terrain stops you and finish the objective. Challenge rewards can include a vehicle and Pebbles for upgrades; use them to prepare for the route that stopped you.

Activities away from the challenge route

The official description includes wildlife photography, a photo compendium, cabins, viewpoints and changing weather. You can pause for a landscape photo or drive with friends instead of trying to clear every objective immediately.

Who this pace suits

Choose it if scouting an approach and taking time over a climb sounds enjoyable. If you mainly want competitive lap racing, this exploration loop is a different purchase proposition.
