Get moving before tackling the climb

Face the camera toward the front wheels so you can see both their path and the ground under the vehicle. Practise on ground with room to reverse; the aim is to learn how to stop and back out before the trail narrows.

  1. Release the handbrake using the displayed prompt. Move a short distance, stop and reverse into the same space.
  2. Locate the high/low range control. If you enable manual shifting in the settings, identify its gear controls before entering the climb.
  3. Select low range on the rough climb. Once you are moving on ordinary ground again, return to high range.

Change the line when the climb stops you

If the tyres spin without gaining ground, reverse onto the last firm patch and approach with both wheels supported. If the body rests on a rock, choose a line around that crest; more throttle along the same line will not create ground clearance.

If reversing no longer frees the car, stop the attempt and use a winch pull toward reachable ground. Resume driving only when the wheels have room to roll.

Turn the first cabin into a return point

A discovered cabin restores supplies and gives you a place to respawn. Reach it before committing to a distant objective.

  1. Drive up to the cabin and complete the discovery prompt. Open the map and look for the newly revealed surroundings.
  2. Choose one nearby point of interest and a route back to that cabin. Leave the long water crossing for a later outing if you cannot see an exit.
  3. At the objective, complete its displayed task and wait for its own completion or reward display. In co-op, every driver must complete their individual checkpoint.
  4. If the car cannot be recovered, open the map and select a discovered cabin to respawn.

Spend the first upgrade on the problem you had

At the mechanic, inspect the upgrade description and Pebbles cost before buying. Repeated wheelspin is a reason to examine tyres; repeated contact under the body is a reason to examine suspension. These are route recommendations, not a guarantee that an upgrade will clear every obstacle.

Confirm the chosen upgrade is fitted, then revisit the short route. If the same rock still catches the body, change the approach rather than buying another part blindly.

Questions from the trail

Do I need other players for the opening route?

No. Start in single-player if you want to practise without organising a session.

Why did my friend finish a checkpoint but I did not?

Progress is individual. Drive through your own checkpoint and check your own completion display before leaving.
