Over the hill Steam Deck: install and check compatibility
Install the Steam version from your Deck library and launch it with the default configuration first. The developer supports Steam Deck at launch; read the current compatibility details before deciding whether the remaining adjustments suit you.
Quick guide
Steam Deck LCD / OLED · Steam release. No measured FPS, battery-life or “best preset” claim.
- Install the purchased game from Library.
- Open the game’s Deck compatibility details and read any listed adjustments.
- Launch with the default configuration and complete a short driving route.
- Change one relevant option only if that route exposes a control or performance problem.
1. Install and make the first launch useful
Use the same Steam account that owns the game. On Deck, open Library, choose over the hill and install it. Launch with Steam’s selected compatibility configuration first; installing a named community Proton build is not a prerequisite established by the developer.
- Read the game’s current Steam Deck compatibility details in the store or library. If marked Playable, read the listed manual adjustments before starting.
- Enter the game, release the handbrake and test steering, camera, braking and the map close to the start.
- Drive a short route back to a known point. Continue to a longer objective only when you can reliably stop, reverse and open the map.
2. Use the badge to decide your next step
| Current Valve result | What to do |
|---|---|
| Verified | Read any details, then try the default configuration. It is not a 60 FPS promise. |
| Playable | Apply the specific adjustments listed for this game. |
| Unsupported | Do not buy specifically for Deck on the assumption of supported play. |
| Unknown | Treat compatibility testing as incomplete; weigh that uncertainty before buying. |
3. Fix the problem you actually see
If an action fails, first compare its on-screen prompt with Steam’s active controller layout. Return to a clear area and test that action before resuming the climb.
If performance hinders driving, lower one available graphics setting or choose a lower frame cap, then repeat the same route. This is a troubleshooting method, not a tested preset; there is no evidence here for an exact stable frame rate or battery duration.
If it does not work
| What you see | What to do next | Ready to continue when… |
|---|---|---|
| A control does not match the prompt | Check the active Steam controller layout and test that action on clear ground. | Steering, stopping and the map work before you leave. |
| Driving becomes hard to control because of performance | Change one available graphics option or frame cap, then repeat the same short route. | The result is usable for you; otherwise reconsider Deck play before spending more time. |
Questions from the trail
Does launch support mean it is currently Verified?
No. Developer support and Valve’s current badge are separate. Read the badge shown to you; this page has not verified a current game-specific rating.
Should I install a special Proton version first?
No particular community build is established as required by the sources used here. Start with Steam’s default selection.

Developer launch announcement confirms Steam Deck support. The older FAQ mentions Proton. Valve supplies the badge definitions, not a measured over the hill performance result.
Still unverified: the current game-specific Valve badge, a repeatable graphics preset, frame rates and battery measurements.
